Our Mission

Reduce sugar consumption, waste and promote sustainability, one sip at a time.

We're on a mission to reduce sugar consumption and waste while promoting sustainable healthy choices. By incorporating more plant-based drinks into our diets and using eco-friendly packaging, we can make a positive impact on our health and the environment.

Let's have fun doing this. Want to join us?

🌏 Choose a company that cares about giving you the best quality produce.

🌏 Choose a company that's making eco-conscious choices for your family and ours.

🌏 Choose to drink, share and tell your friends about these amazing plant based drinks.

It's our goal to help you on your journey to becoming a partner in making better choices for health and the environment, one sip at a time.  We live in a world that is facing multiple challenges, from health crises to environmental issues.

Two issues that we're passionate about are:

🌏 reducing sugar consumption by choosing organic produce and plant-based drinks; and
🌏 reducing waste by using eco-friendly packaging.

While they may seem unrelated at first glance, they are actually interconnected in more ways than one.

    Reducing Sugar Consumption

Reducing sugar consumption, is critical for promoting a healthier lifestyle. Sugar is a major contributor to several chronic health conditions, including obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. By reducing sugar intake, we can lower the risk of developing these conditions, leading to a healthier population overall.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the recommended daily intake of added sugars should not exceed 10% of total energy intake, and ideally, it should be less than 5%Sadly, many people exceed this limit, with some studies showing that the average American consumes as much as 17 teaspoons of added sugar per day. Many do this because it's either easier to buy a sugary drink / snack or they just don't know any better.

Excessive sugar consumption has been linked to numerous health problems, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and tooth decay. By reducing sugar consumption, we can improve our overall health and reduce the risk of developing these conditions.

We must first look to food and the environment as our source to a solution for this growing problem. This is what other experts in these topics have to say:

Dr Sanjay Gupta, American Neuro Surgeon and Chief Medical Correspondence from CNN (source)

"Excessive sugar consumption is a major public health concern and a leading cause of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and tooth decay. It's essential that we reduce our sugar intake and look for healthier alternatives, such as plant-based drinks like tea, which can provide natural sweetness without the harmful effects of added sugars."

Dr Mark Hyman, American Physician and New York Times Best Selling Author (source):

"Our current food system is causing widespread health problems and environmental degradation. By reducing our sugar consumption and incorporating more plant-based foods and drinks into our diets, we can improve our health and the health of the planet. It's time to shift our focus towards sustainable and healthy food choices, starting with simple changes like swapping sugary drinks for natural, plant-based options."

    Reducing Waste

Reducing waste by using eco-friendly packaging, is essential for preserving our planet. The amount of waste we generate is a significant contributor to environmental problems, such as pollution, climate change, and depletion of natural resources. By using eco-friendly packaging, we can reduce the amount of waste we generate and lessen our impact on the environment.

    Let's Work Together

While these two goals may seem daunting, there are many simple steps we can take to achieve them. By making small changes in our daily habits, such as reading food labels, choosing natural sweeteners, and using eco-friendly packaging, we can contribute to a healthier planet and a better future for all.

We believe that reducing sugar consumption is critical for promoting a healthier lifestyle. That's why our entire collection of teas are made with no added sugar. Our teas are ethically sourced and grown organically, ensuring that they are not only delicious but also good for you and the environment.

To reduce sugar intake, start by switching out sugary drinks for our delicious teas. Our teas are naturally sweetened and come in a variety of flavours, so you're sure to find one that suits your taste buds. Additionally, choosing natural sweeteners such as honey or maple syrup to add to your tea can be a healthier option.

    Solution #2 - Waste Packaging

Becoming an environmentally responsible ecommerce store meant making conscious choices in our supply chain, even if it wasn't easy to do. During the development of our product we had to make several key decisions about our supply chain, from how we source, to shipping and eventually packaging and deliver to our customers, you.

The easy way was to do what everyone else does and that's pile high with plastics and non-compostable materials that were cheap. But it makes us feel sick to do that and to be honest it is not an option.

Since 2019 we've been looking for better solutions to help address this problem. We found another Australian company called Hero Packaging who were just as passionate. They developed a product that feels and looks like plastic but isn't. They use a combination of PBAT (co-polymer that's 100% compostable) and corn starch to manufacture an eco friendly mailing satchel and accessories.

We had to jump on board, to us this was a great way to eliminate 1 bag at a time from landfill.

Mailer Satchel 100% Biodegradable & Compostable

You'll receive your online order in a biodegradable and compostable mailer satchel, significantly reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. The label attached to the satchel, sticky tape and brown packing paper can also be composted.

Next we looked at our tea to see what could be done.

    Tea Waste

We had two choices for delivering tea to you.

The first were teabags, but this would create more waste, with each and every cup. Most tea bags had a portion or were entirely made from plastic (fancy word on the package says polyethene), which was not recyclable or compostable - this is not an option, and it's not good for you or the environment.

The second option was to sell our customers loose leaf tea and provide them with the option of reusable tea strainers. This had the least amount of impact on the environment and was the best choice for your health.

    Tea Pouches 100% Recyclable

The tea pouches are 100% recyclable through programs like REDcycle and Curby where it can be made into products like outdoor furniture, bollards, playground equipment, flooring and much more. We also encourage our customers to reuse our packaging whenever possible, further reducing our impact on the environment.

Many companies are adopting eco-friendly packaging as part of their sustainability efforts. As consumers, we can support these companies by choosing eco-friendly products over those that use single-use packaging. Additionally, we can reduce waste by recycling, composting, and repurposing items whenever possible.

At The Tea Cartel, we believe that promoting a healthier lifestyle and a cleaner environment go hand in hand.

By reducing sugar consumption and waste with eco-friendly packaging, we can make a positive difference. Let's work together to build a healthier, more sustainable future for ourselves and future generations.

Learn About How Produce is Grown

In today's world, it's more important than ever to consider the environmental impact of the products we consume. While we may focus on the health benefits of the food we eat, it's essential to also think about how our choices affect the planet. That's why at The Tea Cartel, we choose only organic produce for all our teas. By doing so, we're not only promoting healthy living, but we're also taking steps to protect the environment and ensure sustainability for future generations.

When it comes to the food we consume, many of us are becoming increasingly conscious of what we put in our bodies. However, it's just as important to consider the environmental impact of the products we buy. By choosing organic products, we can help protect the environment, specifically the soil, from toxic chemicals that are often used in conventional farming practices.

At The Tea Cartel, we're committed to sustainability, and that's why we choose only organic produce for all our teas. Organic farming practices prioritize the health of the soil, which is essential for producing healthy crops. By avoiding toxic pesticides and fertilizers, we help maintain the integrity of the soil, which is crucial for the long-term sustainability of our food systems.

In conventional farming, harmful chemicals can leach into the soil, contaminating the water supply, and causing damage to surrounding ecosystems. This can have long-term consequences for the health of the planet, including increased greenhouse gas emissions, soil degradation, and loss of biodiversity.

By choosing organic products, we're not only making healthier choices for ourselves, but we're also contributing to the health of the planet. Organic farming methods promote biodiversity and protect wildlife habitats. Additionally, they can reduce the carbon footprint of agriculture by sequestering carbon in the soil.

At The Tea Cartel, we believe that sustainability is a fundamental part of our business. By choosing organic produce for all our teas, we're doing our part to help protect the environment and promote a healthier, more sustainable future for everyone.
