Tea is grown in a variety of regions around the world. We source our teas from farmers who use organic growing methods. To grow tea this way means it takes more time, effort and resources (man power) but the earth is well cared for, the taste and quality of the tea is superior and the health benefits are significantly more (no one wants toxic chemicals in their tea).
Here are the basic steps for growing tea:
-
Soil preparation: Tea plants thrive in well-drained, acidic soil with good organic matter. The soil is prepared by tilling, fertilizing, and adding organic matter.
-
Planting: Tea plants are propagated from cuttings or seeds. The cuttings or seedlings are planted in rows in the prepared soil.
-
Pruning: Tea plants are pruned regularly to maintain their shape and promote new growth. This also makes it easier to pick the tea leaves.
-
Harvesting: The timing and method of harvesting depend on the type of tea being produced. For example, black tea is made from fully mature leaves that are harvested by hand or machine, while green tea is made from young leaves that are harvested by hand. Tea is usually harvest early morning before the sun comes out while the leaves are fresh and dewy.
-
Processing: After the leaves are harvested, they are processed to create different types of tea. For example, black tea is withered, rolled, oxidized, and dried, while green tea is withered, steamed or pan-fried, rolled, and dried.
-
Quality control: Throughout the growing and processing process, quality control measures are taken to ensure that the tea meets the desired standards for flavour, aroma, and appearance.
- Blending: The tea is brought to our facility where we blend different varieties according to recipes. We produce tea in small batches to ensure quality and turnover is high (avoiding product sitting on the shelves for too long).
- Packaging: Tea is then carefully separated into air tight zip lock pouches to seal in the freshness. When a purchase by the customer is made, our team will pack their chosen teas into a mailer with labelling and send it within one business day, via Australia post.
- Tracking: You will receive a notification with a tracking number your parcel is enroute. To most places in Australia tea will arrive within 1 week, or less.
