How to Make Iced Tea

Ingredients (makes 6 glasses)

  • Black tea (6 teaspoons)
  • 6 cups of filtered water
  • 2 cups of ice
  • Sugar sweetener (optional)
  • 1 Lemon or lime sliced
  • Fresh sprigs of mint

Optional Ingredients

  • Stevia, honey or sugar for sweetening.
  • Fresh fruit and or herbs for extra zing, colour and presentation.

Method

  1. Bring water to a boil in a large pot or kettle.

  2. Remove the pot from the heat and add tea, depending on how strong you like your tea. You can use black, green, or herbal tea bags.

  3. Steep the tea for 3-5 minutes, depending on the type of tea and your preference. The longer you steep, the stronger the tea will be.

  4. Remove the tea and strain leaves, allow the tea to cool to room temperature. You can speed up the process by adding ice to the pot.

  5. Once the tea has cooled, transfer it to a pitcher and refrigerate until cold.

  6. To serve, fill glasses with ice and pour the chilled tea over the ice. Add lemon or sweetener, if desired.

  7. Enjoy your homemade iced tea!

Tip: For an extra burst of flavor, you can add sliced fruit or herbs to the tea before refrigerating. Lemon, mint, or berries are great options.

You can also make iced tea with white, green or black tea leaves. These teas have caffeine, so just be careful to not drink too much in the evenings.
