How to Make Bubble Tea (sugar free)

How to Make Bubble Tea (sugar free)

3 Steps to Make Bubble Tea

  1. Choose your tea (scroll to the end of this post for list of teas).
  2. Prepare ingredients.
  3. Mix and enjoy!

Ingredients for Bubble Tea

  • 1 teaspoon tea
  • 100ml boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons of uncooked tapioca balls
  • Ice to half fill glass
  • Milk (to taste)

METHOD

  1. Brew the tea, strain the leaves and allow it to cool.
  2. You're going to be making a concentrated version of tea, so use 100ml of water to 1 teaspoon of tea. The remainder of your glass will be filled with either milk and or ice.
  3. Prepare your 'bubbles' according to the instructions on the pack.
  4. Bubbles are actually tapioca balls, they have a weird but satisfying texture.
  5. You can make bubble tea with or without milk, or substitute milk for a secondary ingredient to your choice, e.g. soy milk, coconut milk, almond milk - you get the picture.
  6. Place the bubbles in the bottom of your glass.
  7. Add ice and pour over tea and mix well.
  8. Add any final ingredients such as milk or even a fruit pulp like passionfruit!

Enjoy!

Note:

If you're like me I do love the bubbles at the bottom of my tea. I double the quantity of tapioca and since it's so filling I find myself feeling full (but in a light weight type of way).

Choosing the Right Tea

Black tea contains caffeine, if you want to drink this at night try using one of the herbal teas without caffeine. First start with a tea of your choice. Traditionally bubble tea was made with black tea, but you can use any tea you like. Brew the tea, strain the leaves and allow it to cool. Here are some teas you might like to try:

  1. Bold English Breakfast Tea
  2. Chic French Earl Grey Tea
  3. Stormy Earl Grey Tea
  4. Empress Blue Butterfly Tea (for a purple or blue tea - caffeine free)
  5. Aloha Hibiscus Flower Tea (for a pink tea - caffeine free)
  6. Calm Sencha Tea (for a green tea - low caffeine)
